Shetland Sheepdog (popularly known as Sheltie) is a herding dog that originated from Scotland in the Shetland Islands. Shelties look like miniature Collies. Initially, they were known as Shetland Collie. However, this caused discourse among Collie breeders of the time. Therefore, the name was changed to Shetland Sheepdog. Shelties are vocal, intelligent, willing to please, and excitable.
Xoloitzcuintli ( also referred to as Xolo or Mexican Hairless Dog ) is an ancient Aztec dog of the gods that originated in Mexico more than 3000 years ago. It comes in three size varieties; standard, miniature, or toy. The three size varieties may either be hairless or coated which are born in the same litter. The former has a smooth, tough, and close-fitting skin while the latter is covered by a short flat coat. A dominant hairless variety originated in the breed as a spontaneous mutation thousand of years ago.
Coton de Tulear( nicknamed Coton) is a Bichon Type of dog that originated from Madagascar, an Island in Africa. This dog gets it's name from it's cotton-like coat and it is also named for the city of Tulear in Madagascar. Cotons are popular for cavorting, following their favorite human around the house, clowning, and walking on their hind legs. The primary role of the Coton is providing companionship, comfort, and amusement. It is a low to non-shedding breed that produces less dander hence regarded hypoallergenic. However, there is no truly hypoallergenic breed. This breed shades when the puppy coat is transitioning to an adult coat.
Plott Hound ( simply known as Plott) is a large scent hound originally developed in North Carolina, in the USA for hunting of bears. They are popular for their intelligent, loyal, and eager to please nature. However, they are wary of strangers. For this reason, they need extensive socialization so that they may learn to differentiate between a friend and a foe. A Plott is also a vocal breed known for its slightly high-pitched baying that assists it to hunt successfully. It is among one of the recognized AKC Coonhounds along with Treeing Walker Coonhound, Redbone Coonhound, Black and Tan Coonhound, and Bluetick Coonhound. Although, unlike other coonhounds, it was not descended from English Foxhounds but from the German boar-hunting dogs.
Chesapeake Bay Retriever ( commonly nicknamed Chessie) is a medium to large-sized dog breed developed in the USA in the 19th century. It belongs to the gundog, retriever, and sporting breed groups. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are popular for their wavy waterproof coat that is oily to the touch. They also have a powerful and large chest used to break apart ice when diving into cold water during duck hunting. Chesapeake Bay Retrievers were originally used by local market hunters to pull fishing nets, retrieve waterfowls, and rescue fishermen.
Springer Spaniel( full name: English Springer Spaniel) is a gun dog dog breed from England. It was originally used for flushing and retrieving game. Over the years, this breed diverged into two lines, show dogs and field dogs. The former has been linked with rage syndrome. Springer Spaniels are closely related to English Cocker Spaniel and Welsh Springer Spaniel. Working Springer Spaniels have a shorter and coarser coats, with less pendulous ears. They are selected for their hunting ability, sense of smell, and response to training rather than appearance. Field Springer Spaniels are also used for K-9 detection work.
Boykin Spaniel (popularly nicknamed Boykin), is a medium-sized spaniel dog breed originally developed for hunting wild turkeys and ducks in South Carolina, in the United States during the 20th century. It is popular for its solid-brown coat that ranges from a rich liver to a luscious chocolate. Boykins are versatile hunters working as retrievers and upland hunters that flush birds into flight. They are especially good with hunting doves and other upland games due to their stamina in hot weather and eagerness. A Boykin makes a great family pet since it sociable, friendly, and extremely stable around children and other dogs.
A Havapoo( also known as Havanoodle, Havadoodle, or Poovanese) is a crossbreed dog developed by crossing a Havanese with a miniature or Toy-sized Poodle. It is popular for its charming personality and a low-allergen coat. Although, there is no crossbreed or pure breed that is truly hypoallergenic. Havapoos make great watchdogs that will bark to alert the owner when someone new is approaching.
Papillon Dog ( also known as Continental Toy Spaniel) is a toy spaniel dog breed that originated in France and Belgium. It derives its name from the French word 'Papillon' meaning butterfly due to the long and fringed hair on the ears that looks like the outspread wings of a butterfly. There is also another variety of this breed known as Phalene due to the drop shaped ears. Both varieties may be born in the same litter. However, Papillon is the most popular variety. Papillons are sociable and intelligent dogs that have an easy time learning new tricks. However, they are generally reserved around new people. A Shih Poo( also written as Shipoo or Shih-Poo) is a hybrid dog that was created by crossing a Shih Tzu with a Toy Poodle in North America. Therefore, they need a firm but gentle guide in training. Shih Poos are also adaptable to small living spaces like apartment living.
