Peekapoo Dog Breed Introduction
Peekapoo is a hybrid dog that is mainly from the United States. The breed is created by crossbreeding a Pekingese and a toy poodle or a miniature poodle. The dog is small in size and has a loud bark. Peekapoos are loving and loyal companions for senior citizens. Most of them are lapdogs or sit by one’s side as they are a low-energy breed.
After crossbreeding is done, the breed developed have coats ranging from, chocolate and black to white, silver, grey, cream, apricot, and buff. Some of the Peekapoos gain traits from Pekingese parents as a watchdog and they will bark on seeing something or someone they think is suspicious. Additionally, being an outdoor breed, Peekapoo may wander on and off and thus they need to be in homes that are fenced.

Peekapoo Grooming
Peekapoos have a soft, wavy coat that requires to be brushed once a week. However, the Peekapoos with longer coats, require daily brushing to avoid matting using a Slicker brush. Unless they roll in something stinky, the Peekapoos need an occasional bath. Brush off the coat before the bath. Use lukewarm water, gentle dog shampoo, conditioner, and Pet Grooming Glove to clean the dog.
Trim their nails with clippers after three to four weeks to prevent overgrowing, cracking, or splitting. Brush Peekapoo teeth twice a week to prevent plaque and tartar from building up with canine toothpaste and canine toothbrush. Irregular oral hygiene may lead to dental health issues. Moreover, the rolls around their eyes and neck should be cleaned once a week as well to avoid bacterial infection. The ears should be cleaned with a damp cotton ball soaked in an ear cleanser to remove dirt and wax once a week.

Peekapoo Training
Peekapoos are intelligent and are relatively easy to train as they love to please their owners. To achieve productive training they require positive reinforcement and consistency. The breed is wary of strangers and their training should begin at an early age before owners adopt them. Socialization should be done from the age of three to 16 weeks by introducing the breed to new dogs or people, places, and sounds like washing machines, trains, and doorbells. As they love to bark, the Peekapoos would be trained to quit barking on command and make sure they know etiquette expectations.
During obedience training avoid shouting or hitting the dog to prevent having a less productive session. When attending a puppy class which takes place when the puppy is around eight weeks make it short with a different schedule to prevent boredom. To encourage positive behaviors, give them treats, positive verbal praises, and interactive toys. Moreover, housebreak the dog by potty training, crate training, and creating feeding schedules.

Patellar Luxation– This health issue is seen in small dog breeds. It occurs when the kneecap becomes dislocated from its normal positioning and begins to slide in and out of place.
Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) – an eye complication that makes the retina deteriorate. If the dog is not taken to a veterinary, it may lead to gradual blindness.
Dental disease – In case the crossbreed parents have or have a history of dental health, it is likely to be transferred to the Peekapoos. To ensure the issue is avoided, brush the dog’s teeth, have regular dental exams, and annual professional cleanings.
Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome – this is a health complication that is common in brachycephalic, especially Pekingese. Due to having a small nose, they may tend to have breathing passages that make it harder for them to breathe, even when resting.
