Bloodhound ( also known as Bloodhound Dog) is a large scent hound originally bred for hunting wild boar and deer in Belgium, United Kingdom, and France. They are known for tracking people since the Middle Ages. Bloodhounds are popular for their ability to discern human scent over great distances even days later. They are used by law enforcement and police all over the globe to track missing people, lost pets, and escaped prisoners. Due to their strong tracking instinct, Bloodhounds can be somewhat difficult and willful to obedience training and leash handling. Although, they are excellent family pets since they are affectionate and even-tempered towards humans. Bloodhounds also have long and large jowls hence they are colossal droolers.
Bullmastiff is a mastiff type of dog originally from the United Kingdom bred as a guard dog by crossing the now extinct Bulldog with the English Mastiff. They rarely bark since they were developed as silent watchdogs. Bullmastiffs are often confused for Mastiff and vice versa since they both have a black mask, same coat colors, V-shaped ears, large heads, short coat and muzzles as well as long tapered tails. However, Mastiffs are nearly rectangular in body appearance while Bullmastiffs are nearly square in body appearance. Moreso, a Mastiff is less agile, slower, and more laid back as compared to the Bullmastiff. Although, Bullmastiffs and Mastiffs are droolers, the latter drools more due to longer and larger flews.
Collie (also referred to as Rough Collie or Long haired Collie) is a medium to large-sized dog breed from Scotland originally bred for herding sheep. There is also a smooth-coated variety referred to as Smooth Collie. However, AKC and CKC consider both Rough and Smooth-coated Collies to be variations of the same breed. Currently, Collies are bred as show dogs, companion dogs, therapy dogs, search and rescue as well as guide dogs for the blind.
Yorkie Poo ( also referred to as Yorkie Poodle or Yorkipoo) is a designer dog created by crossing a Yorkshire Terrier(Yorkie) with a Poodle( toy-sized or Miniature). It is a successful therapy dog due to its loving and gentle disposition. Yorkie Poos are vocal breeds that make excellent watchdogs. These pooches may also be independent with a high-prey drive of chasing after small creatures due to the Terrier in them. Always walk a Yorkie Poo on a leash since it is likely to dart off to challenge large-sized dogs oblivious of its size.
A Cavachon is a hybrid dog deliberately created in the 1990s by crossing a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a Bichon Frise in the United States. They are loving, intelligent, attentive, and extremely loyal dogs that make great pets for novice owners and senior citizens. Cavachons have a silky and medium-length coat that may either be wavy or curly. The coat also sheds at low levels and produces less dander. For this reason, they are considered nearly hypoallergenic dogs like their Bichon Frise Parent.
A Maltipoo is a hybrid or designer dog created by crossing a Maltese with a Miniature or Toy Poodle. Depending on the Poodle Parent, Maltipoos may be toy-sized or small-sized dogs. They are loving dogs that make great pets for novice parents. Maltipoos benefit from hybrid vigour specifically lower susceptibility to diseases and enhanced health. However, they are not recognized by Kennel Clubs such as AKC since they are crossbreeds and not pedigrees.
Irish Wolfhound( also referred to as Irish Greyhound) is a Large-sized dog that hunts by sight and speed( sighthound). It was bred in Ireland to pursue quarry by speed. Irish Wolfounds were also popular as guard dogs specializing in protection against wolves. Of all AKC breeds, Irish wolfhounds are the tallest.
Dogo Argentino is a large muscular dog originally from Argentina bred in 1928 for hunting big games such as puma, wild boar, mountain lions, and feral pigs. It is popular for its short white coat, strength, intelligence, power, great lung capacity, and a muscular build. This makes Dogos Argentinos suitable for other jobs such as police work, service dogs, search and rescue, and guide for the blind. It is also social, friendly, and loyal making a great pet for the right owners.
Bernese Mountain Dog (simply referred to as Bernese or Bernese Mountain) is one of the four Swiss Cattle Dogs from canton of Bern in Switzerland. The other three Swiss Mountain dogs include: Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, Entlebucher Mountain Dog, and Appenzeller Sennenhund. However, of the four types of Swiss Cattle Dogs, Bernese Mountain Dog is the only breed that has a long coat. It has roots in the Roman Mastiffs.
Great Pyrenees(nicknamed Pyr Dog in the USA) is a Livestock guarding dog from the France side of Pyrenees Mountains( a natural border between France and Spain). In France it is referred to as Pyrenean Mountain Dog or Patou where it is widely used as a livestock guardian against wolves and bears particularly in the French Alps and Pyrenees. In the United States, it is used in North America to protect flocks from predators like black bears, coyotes, grizzly bears, and cougars. They are also used as family pets, therapy dogs, and in rescue work.
